What are the chances of a child growing up in poverty if:
1) the mother gave birth as a teenager,
2) the parents were unmarried when the child was born, and
3) the mother did not receive a high school diploma or GED?
27% if one of these things happen. 42% if two of these things happen. 64% if all three of these things happen. BUT, if NONE of these things happen, a child’s chance of growing up in poverty is just 7%.
"Did You Know...?" is a feature of the Vision 2020 website. It's our goal to bring you a series of facts about numerous issues related to poverty and to highlight the work other organizations are doing around poverty elimination. If your organization has a fact(s) you'd like to see on the "Did You Know...?" feature, please contact Vicky Selkowe at vselkowe@wccf.org or
